Skilled apprentices the foundation of economic recovery

At March 2019 there were 276,250 apprentices and trainees in training according to National Centre for Vocational Training research.

Tradeswomen Australia, established to encourage, recruit and retain women in skilled trade roles, today said an interactive online summit on Tuesday to address the impact the COVID-19 pandemic on apprenticeships and the possible loss of jobs would provide apprentices with a VOICE.

Apprentices can be extremely vulnerable in hard economic times.

Managing Director of Tradeswomen Australia, Fiona McDonald said, ‘the first interactive online summit will focus on the Building, Construction, Civil, Automotive, Mining and Engineering areas and feature industry feedback through polling to gauge sentiment on hot issues.

Ms McDonald said the calling of the summit for apprentices and industry was a result of a flood of questions once COVID-19 impacts such as job losses became public.

“We expect the Federal Government will work with industry and training bodies to limit the impact on apprentices.”

“It is important to provide skilled apprentices, the foundation of economic recovery, an opportunity to be involved in having a say in their future.

The first Tradeswomen Australia Virtual APPRENTICE Summit will focus on Building, Construction, Civil, Automotive, Mining and Engineering and will take place on:

Tuesday 31 March 2020 at 5.30pm to 7.30 pm.
